Shop News

Kindly note, our Bridport shop will be temporarily closed from Monday 27th February for a week while our kitchen undergoes refurbishment, however we will still be baking!  As well as our usual markets throughout the week we will also have a stall outside the shop on both Wednesday 1st March and Saturday 4th March when we will also have a stall outside Bridport Post Office. In the meantime, place your orders for collection at any of the markets next week on 01308 423296. For those of you who live further afield or can't make it to a market, you can always shop online!
We will be re-opening on Tuesday 7th March as usual, but may be able to open on Monday if works are ahead of schedule. Keep checking back here for updates!

Gold in World Bread Awards

We were a bit late to get the memo on this - but, rather excitingly our Pure Rye Sourdough recently scooped another award, this time in Tiptree's World Bread Awards.

It's the first time we've taken part in these awards which welcomes entrants from across the globe and a wide range of categories from Baguettes to Flatbreads which attest to it's truly international flavour.

The competition, which includes categories for both professional and amateur bakers, takes place in September each year and invites entries from both budding young bakers to seasoned kitchen creators.

The Sourdough win follows a Great Taste win for the same loaf earlier in the year.  Rye appears to be having a moment!

Toast App Set to Revolutionise Breakfast

We were excited to see some local tech talent featured in Wired Magazine recently.  West Dorset IT developers are set to launch a revolutionary new "Toast" app.

Harnessing the sophisticated brightness and calibration tools found on modern smartphones, the app will allow busy people in the move to toast bread  using their handheld device.

A spokeswoman for Rhubarb Technology said; "As the nations favourite food, Toast is an important part of everyones day,  and we're excited to be offering the chance for people to enjoy toast everywhere; in their cars or at picnics on the beach".

A Leakers Bakery spokesman said, "the possibilities for this new idea are endless.  People will be making their own toasties on the move soon, which is a great step forward for us all".

Leakers one of Telegraph's Top 20 British Bakeries

We are huge fans of Food Writer and Cook Diana Henry and are delighted to be among her selection of Top 20 British Bakeries in this weekend's Telegraph.  As Food Writer for the newspaper, Diana creates both delicious recipes and food picks based on the best places for getaways with good food at their centre.   "What's the point of going away otherwise?," Diana comments.  With Bridport Food Festival coming up in June, we hope that her feature encourages ever more food fans to come and enjoy what Bridport and the surrounding area have to offer the hungry visitor.

Melplash Show

We love the Melplash Show!  This year's much anticipated event had the added benefit of great sunshine and we had a very busy day in the Produce Tent alongside many other local producers.  We were delighted to be awarded for Outstanding Local Produce and awarded with the Sandwich Plate, no less!  The award is given by the Earl and Countess Sandwich and will be taking pride of place in our East Street shop.
